Zombies are known to be not real creatures – there is no place for them in ecology and nature. Zombies are known to be always in the battle until they are drawn back or destructed and nobody except for the sorcerer can make them stop. As all the non-living creatures zombies are known to be immune to sleep, immobility, death magic, poison and the cold magic. But let us talk more about zombies and this symbol.
Zombies are known to be mythical creatures that are widely known in the modern mass culture. Zombie is known to be the revived corpse or even the living person who totally lost control of his body and is blindly obeying someones' will. There is also a different meaning – not literary. In this meaning zombie is known to be the person who is influence by something greatly.
The depiction of the dead people in the modern culture is based on the rich literary tradition, including the folklore and such books as Frankenstein and Me, Legend.
The zombie as a term is highly connected with voodoo – the magical practice of the people of the Carribean – Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad and Cuba. The roots of voodoo can be found in the Western Africa (Benin), from where the slaves were brought to Haiti. The coming of the term zombie itself remains unknown. It came to Haiti with the help of the slaves that were brought there in the beginning of the 17th century from the Western African state of Dagomea (modern Benin and Nigeria). The etymology of the word remains unknown also. According to one version this is the modified name nzambi that means small god or the spirit of the dead on African language Bantoo. According to another theory it is the changed Western African zhambi that means ghost. There is also a theory according to which the word zombie was once used to name the big black dragon from the African beliefs, who was the eternal enemy to the Sun, the light and joy.
The zombie concept is known to be as ancient as the human writing ability and it can be firstly met in the ancient Epos of Gilgamesh where the Ishtar goddess refers to zombies. The name itself goes to the Western African religious cults voodoo that were cultivating the understanding of the powerful sorcerers that could revive the dead people and put them to slavery. In Japanese mythology the images of the zombies were made probably of the buso spirits that used to eat human flesh. They search the dark night for their victims and are totally free from intellect.
